Short Abstract:  Dialight Awarded Prestigious IDA Certification for StreetSENSE™ Series LED Street Lights

International Dark-Sky Association’s Fixture Seal of Approval certification recognizes StreetSENSE fixtures’ eco-conscious precision light direction for reducing light pollution.

Farmingdale, NJ – (March 29th, 2010) –  Dialight (LSE: DIA.L), an innovative global leader in LED lighting technology, has achieved certification by the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) for its advanced StreetSENSE™ Series LED Street Lights. The StreetSENSE fixtures were awarded the IDA Fixture Seal of Approval for their precise light direction, which focuses light downward, where it’s needed, to minimize light pollution.

“As part of our corporate commitment to providing environmentally responsible products that reduce energy consumption, minimize light pollution and lower the carbon footprint, we are constantly working to align with IDA and similar organizations in promoting sustainability worldwide,” said Roy Burton, Group Chief Executive of Dialight. “Achieving certification for our StreetSENSE LED light fixtures through third party testing validates the product’s environmentally beneficial qualities. We’re proud to contribute to reducing light pollution and honored to gain the right to display the IDA Fixture Seal of Approval.”

The Dialight StreetSENSE fixtures combine precision optics with the latest in advanced LED technology to provide highly effective, energy-efficient, focused exterior lighting for roadways, parking lots, walkways and bike paths. The StreetSENSE Type II forward-throw LED luminaires, with their IDA compliant reflector design, prevent direct glare and deliver high quality, precisely directed illumination downward where it’s needed, virtually eliminating upward light pollution and lateral light trespass.

“Reducing light pollution is a growing priority worldwide, and exterior lighting, including streetlights, are a major part of the problem,” added Burton. “Getting IDA certification for our products reinforces our position as a leading provider of environmentally sustainable lighting products that can help governments and municipalities cost-effectively combat light pollution. We intend to secure certification for our other outdoor lighting products in the coming months.”

About the IDA Certification

The International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) is a globally recognized authority on light pollution and leading proponent of protecting and restoring the Earth’s natural night environment and heritage of dark skies through promotion of quality outdoor lighting. IDA established the Fixture Seal of Approval (FSA) certification program to provide objective, third-party certification for luminaires that minimize glare, reduce light trespass and pollution, and lessen the destruction of the night sky.

As part of the certification process, IDA evaluated the photometric data of Dialight’s StreetSENSE luminaires, analyzing the Upward Light Output Ratio (ULOR), or the amount of upward light flux a fixture produces. The StreetSENSE fixtures passed IDA’s rigid testing to meet their light pollution reduction requirements, earning the prestigious Fixture Seal of Approval.  The IDA maintains a list of approved fixtures and manufacturers for businesses, developers and governments searching for dark sky friendly lighting solutions.
